September 21-27 is Amnesty International's national week of Teach
Ins
for Troy, and across the country folks will be gathering to raise
awareness and learn about Troy Davis and the broken system of capital
punishment. Amnesty has teamed up with the Campaign to End the Death
Penalty and Georgians For Alternatives to the Death Penalty to put
together a joint Teach In sponsored by all three organizations! This
promises to be a great event with a compelling line up of speakers,
including Florida death row exoneree Juan Melendez!
The event will be held at Georgia State University's Cinefest and will
begin with a screening of "Juan Melendez-6446," the new documentary
telling the incredible story of Juan Melendez and how he was sentenced
to death for a crime he did not commit. The film will be followed by
a panel discussion featuring Mr. Melendez, as well as Georgia
legislators and activists. The event is free and open to the public.
